  • Fall Activities

We had a busy fall.  Thought I would share a few highlights.  Here John is in the backyard with his new BB gun....shooting leaves and sticks I believe?

Here John was able to go to a football game this year with his brother.  Nathan came up for a long weekend and they went to the Ohio State/Michigan game.

John has turned into quite a yard expert since moving into our home almost 3 years ago.  Here he is aerating our yard.  I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but he was doing this in the snow!!  That day he mowed, raked the extra leaves, and then proceeded to aerate.  The grass should grow like crazy in the Spring.

  • Ike Came to Ohio?

Yep, the winds from hurricane Ike made it all the way to Dayton, Ohio.  It was definitely not as devastating here as it was for all the people in Texas that were in the actual hurricane, but we did have a few suprises from the storm.  John and I were without power for 1 week.  They finally got everyone in the Dayton area back with power yesterday (2 wks after the winds blew through).  Here is a few snapshots of the trees on our street.

  • What A Summer!

We had quite a few visitors this summer, did some traveling ourselves, and managed to get a few home improvement projects in.  Here are a few snapshots for you to enjoy.

Home Improvement -- Our natural drainage area in the backyard was turned into a creek bed so the water had somewhere to go.

May -- We went to Kansas again this Memorial Weekend to spend time with Angie's family and enjoy the family farm.  John was put to work building barbed wire fence.

June -- John's brother and family came to visit in June.  We had fun going to the Aquarium and Zoo with them.

Angie also had sinus surgery in June.  Her mom came to help out during that week and she was able to see her dad as well.  She was stuck in bed for a week and then 6 weeks of no strenous activities (yep, John had to do the laundry and all the yardwork without her).

July -- 4th of July was spent with John's parents.  We had a nice time going to a firework display here near our home.

August --  we went to Kansas for a wedding.  Angie was a bridesmaid for one of her college roommates.  John did some more work on the farm. :)

  • Happy Easter!

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter this year.  John and I were blessed to have family in town for the Holiday.  My parents came to Dayton for a nice long weekend.  We attended our church's Easter celebration and followed it up with a nice brunch.

This weekend we were able to spend some time outside.  I had ordered some plants by catalog this year in February (apparently this is what my grandmother used to do) and they are delivered when it is time to plant them in your area.  They arrived this past Friday and I was SO THRILLED.  I was shaking due to my excitement. :)  Needless to say, we spent Friday evening and Saturday getting about 50 plants in the ground.  Can't wait to see them sprout and grow!

Here is John getting ready to plant and a picture of me inspecting our work to make sure the squirrels weren't digging up all our plants. :)
